The CIRM-CF, foundation of our research activities

The CIRM-CF (Centre International de Ressources Microbiennes - Champignons Filamenteux) is the collection of our Unit, dedicated to filamentous fungi, mainly basidiomycetes and ascomycetes, involved in biomass transformation. Exclusive proposed fungal strains are coming from unique biotopes (temperate, tropical or polluted agro-industrial sites). Aiming high quality standards, this collection is ISO9001 certified since 2006 for acquisition, authentification, conservation and diffusion of fungal resources. 

Acquisition

Each year, the CIRM-CF organizes or attends to collect operations in natural habitats, with mycologists from the Société Française de Mycologie (SFM). Collected specimen, in continental France and overseas territories (Guyana, Martinique, Guadeloupe...) are identified and in-situ isolated. In parallel, strains can be directly put into collection by the scientific and industrial community.

Authentification

In addition to traditional identification methods, the CIRM-CF is performing molecular identification tests on all its strains in order to authentify and to garanty the exact species of strains distributed to the scientific community.

Conservation

The CIRM-CF is preserving more than 1600 filamentous fungi strains, according to 3 storage modes such as the cryo-conservation. Viability of stored strains is systematically controlled.

Distribution

Stored strains are availlable to the academic or industrial scientific community, and for R&D studies in multiple domains (biotechnology,  green/white chemistry...).

The CIRM, a collection network of the INRA

The CIRM-CF belongs to the CIRM network, created by the INRA in 2004, to preserve and valorize microbial biodiversity. This network, identify as a BRC (Biological Resource Centre) by IBISA, makes available more than 15 000 strains, spread on 5 sites :

  • yeast of biotechnological interest (Grignon)
  • filamentous fungi of agro-industrial interest (Marseille)
  • bacteria of agro-alimentary interest (Rennes)
  • pathogen bacteria of the food chain (Tours).
  • phytopathogen bacteria (Angers)
