Etiology

Viruses from vegetable, ornemental and aromatic crops

wordle
  • Detection for the first time of 15 new virus species on the French territory (including overseas) since 2011
  • Characterization of 11 new viruses or new hosts and locations for known viruses in collaborations with foreign partners (Azerbaijan, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey and Venezuela). Among them, we characterized 5 new viral species including a cucurbit-infecting torradovirus (squash chlorotic leaf spot virus) and an ipomovirus (coccinia mottle virus) related to cucumber vein yellowing virus, both in Sudan
  • Identification of new host plants for several viruses (e.g. eggplant mottled dwarf virus, a rhabdovirus, in lisianthus or beet western yellow virus, a polerovirus, in pepper)
  • Characterization more in depth of four viruses belonging to the genus Alphanecrovirus and Betanecrovirus that can individually infect lamb's lettuce (Valerianella locusta) in Western France: tobacco necrosis virus A (TNV-A), TNV-D, olive mild mosaic virus and a new viral species called TNV-X, closely related to TNV-A. These viruses, causing severe leaf necrosis and transmitted by a soil fungus (Olpidium), are very damaging for farmers
