What role for scientists in the face of the global ecological crisis?

27 January 2023

Sophia Antipolis - INRAE PACA - A010 - Video conferencing

As part of the ISA scientific animation that will take place on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 am, Kaïna Privet and Marceau Minot will present their work.

Abstract :

For more than 30 years, scientists from all over the world have been trying to alert governments and public opinion to the global ecological crisis. The anthropogenic origin of this crisis (global warming and collapse of biodiversity) is the subject of an international scientific consensus. What have these scientists done? We will illustrate their actions through the examples of the warning letters, the IPCC and the COPs.
What effects did this have? What can we do now?
Noting the inaction of governments in the face of the ecological and climatic emergency, more than 1000 French scientists from all disciplines called in 2020 for the development of alternatives and civil disobedience. It is now an international movement. We will present this lever of action that is civil disobedience and how it is possible for scientists to seize it.
This seminar will take place at INRAE in Sophia-Antipolis, in room A010.
It will be possible to follow the presentation by videoconference.
