Molecular bases of insect pupariation site selection, a perspective from Drosophila

10 March 2023

Sophia Antipolis - INRAE PACA - A010 - Video conferencing

As part of the scientific animation ISA, we will have the pleasure to have a seminar of Nuria Romero of the team DEB, Friday, March 10 at 11am on the following theme:

Abstract :

Insects have complex life cycles, including discrete transitional periods like metamorphosis, during which they are particularly vulnerable to the environment. For instance, immobile pupae in holometabolous insects cannot relocate/move during the metamorphic period. For this reason, they depend on the preceding larval stage for choosing a suitable location, and this physiological choice is often subjected to strong selection. In this selection process, named pupariation site selection (PSS), the sensory system is crucial in perceiving the environment and commanding the proper locomotor behavior. This seminar will summarize our recent results regarding how the sensory system detects the environment to exert a geotaxis behavior affecting insect PSS. For this, we use the Drosophila model, in which we and others have established that the sensory system shows several structural and functional parallels even with mammals.

The seminar can be followed in person in room A010 or by video:
