The Vat resistance to Aphis gossypii in melon has been largely deployed in South eastern France and has been recently jeopardized by aphid clones able to colonize the Vat plants.

The Vat resistance is controlled by at least two closely linked genes in melon. We will dissect the Vat cluster in different accessions exhibiting different resistance patterns, and we will establish the resistance pattern conferred by the different homologous genes identified.

We characterized a partial resistance to A. gossypii, Rag, genetically independent from Vat, We will look for the,QTL[Rag] and, we will validate their effects  in different genetic backgrounds

Different combinations of Vat and QTL[Rag] will be evaluated in situ for their ability to control aphids infesting melon populations in the Mediterranean Basin.
