MelOpen (2017 - 2020)

Access to an untapped biodiversity for melon improvement programs

The MelOpen project aims to provide access to an untapped biodiversity for melon improvement programs, namely the genetic diversity and sources of resistance, which are available in wild species of the Cucumis genus. For this, we propose to break down the reproductive species barrier by epigenetic approaches. Removing such barriers between melon and the related species will provide access to a natural variability hitherto untapped and pave the way to new plant breeding programs.
